GLP-1 injection sites: what the labels say about rotating
The US labels for Zepbound, Mounjaro, Wegovy and Ozempic list the abdomen, thigh and upper arm as GLP-1 injection sites, and each tells you to change the site you use. For Zepbound and Mounjaro, the labels say another person should inject the back of the upper arm.
GLP-1 injection sites are the same three body areas across the main branded pens: the abdomen, the thigh and the upper arm. The details differ by medicine, especially who should inject the upper arm, so this page sets out what each official label says. We checked the labels on 4 November 2026.
This page summarizes label wording and is not medical advice. Your prescriber or pharmacist can show you the technique for your pen, and their instructions come first. We make Kapi, a shot tracker, and the last section explains how it records sites.
Where do the labels say to inject?
| Medicine | Areas listed | Upper arm | On changing site |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zepbound | Abdomen, thigh, back of the upper arm | Another person should inject | Rotate injection sites with each dose |
| Mounjaro | Abdomen, thigh, back of the upper arm | Have another person inject | Rotate injection sites with each dose |
| Wegovy injection | Abdomen, thigh, upper arm | No second person mentioned | Rotate injection sites with each dose |
| Ozempic | Abdomen, thigh, upper arm | No second person mentioned | Use a different injection site each week when injecting in the same body region |
The wording comes from section 2 of each US prescribing information. Other countries have their own labels, so check the leaflet in your pack.
Is there a best injection site?
None of the four US labels names one area as the best. Their clinical pharmacology sections report similar exposure in the abdomen, thigh and upper arm. The EU leaflet for Wegovy lists all three together as the best places for the injection.
Exposure describes how much medicine reaches your body. It says nothing about which area will suit you, and this page makes no claim about results. Your prescriber or pharmacist can help you choose.
What does rotating your site mean?
The EU leaflets put it more plainly than the US labels. The Mounjaro leaflet says you can use the same area of your body each week, as long as you choose a different injection site within that area. The Wegovy leaflet says you may inject in the same body area each week, but not in the same spot as last time.
Both leaflets also mention keeping 5 cm from your belly button.
What else do the labels say about sites?
- Under the skin: Wegovy's patient information says not to inject into a muscle or vein.
- If you also use insulin: the US labels for Mounjaro and Ozempic say to give separate injections and never mix them. The same body region is acceptable, but the injections should not be next to each other. The EU Mounjaro text says to use a different injection site.
- Skin reactions: this page does not cover them. Ask your care team about any reaction at a site.
- Other products: this page covers these four labels only. For anything else, including compounded medicines and peptides, follow the instructions you were given and your prescriber.
How can you keep track of your sites?
A notebook works. Write down the date, the medicine, the side and the area for each shot, and check it before the next one.
An app saves you the checking. In Kapi you record each shot on a body map with eight sites: four on the stomach, both thighs and both upper arms. Kapi remembers where each shot went and suggests the site that has rested longest.
You always pick the site yourself. If your label says someone else should inject your upper arm and nobody can help that day, choose another area. Site rotation is free for your first 3 shots, then part of Kapi Plus. Kapi records what you enter and does not give medical advice.
Download Kapi from the App Store, or read how the larger trackers compare in Shotsy vs MeAgain.
